Reflecting on Your Goals

Reflecting on Your Goals Within and Beyond the MA Program

This week’s written assignment is a short (1-2 pages, single spaced) essay reflecting on your goals in the MA Program and beyond.  These essays will vary considerably; please do not decide that the questions or approach you choose for this assignment are “wrong” because they differ from a colleague’s.

Questions you may consider: (this is not a checklist)
·      What are my academic interests? What inspires them? How do they seem to be changing at this point? How will I pursue these interests in the time I have remaining in the program?
·      What are my career goals? How might the MA Program help me attain them, either as a credential or in some other way?  How might I shape my courses, teaching, etc. in order to further my goals? Are there paths I am considering now (perhaps new paths) that might allow me to do what I want to do professionally that are different from what I envisioned as I applied to MA programs?
·      What are my personal hopes? My five-year plan? If I imagine looking back on my life decades from now, what kinds of things might I regret NOT having done? Who has the kind of life I hope to lead, and what might I do to align my path in a similar direction? (You do not need to overshare the answers in this assignment, but I think these are really important questions to think about through writing.)

1-2 pages, due Nov 4 via email. Bring a copy to class on Nov 6 along with a copy of your faculty interview.
